Graphics, Printing & Finishing Assistant

You will be responsible for assisting our graphics department with implementation and completion of a wide variety of printing materials.

Responsibilities will also include operating the various printing machines and completing graphic design work for clients. Requirements will also include but are not limited to folding, hole-punching, laminating and coiling.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient knowledge with Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Mac
  • Customer service experience (answering customer questions, phone calls etc)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Previous print experience is an asset

Press Operator

The Printing Press Operator must be able to perform all stages of the printing process, from the prepress stage and set up to the finished product. Responsibilities of the position include working with a digital computer-to-plate system for four-colour production, as well as set up and operation of a two-colour press. This job requires strong organizational and time management abilities to ensure that the printing is done on time, with a high level of quality control. He or she will troubleshoot problems within the printing process, including operation of the machinery, throughput of paper, colour adjustment and alignment issues, as well as cutting, folding, binding and other finishing processes.

Job Duties

  • Assist in the evaluation and scheduling of print jobs to maximize press output and product quality
  • Participate in all operations of the printing operation as needed
  • Create plates using the Presstek system for the 34DI
  • Create plates for the QM46 Heidelberg
  • Install plates
  • Load paper
  • Select and load appropriate inks
  • Help monitor levels of supplies and ensure that adequate stocks are maintained
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems during the print job as they arise
  • Oversee all aspects of the mechanical operation of the press
  • Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on the press, platesetter and associated equipment
  • Maintain knowledge of pre-press processes to be able to recognize problems and suggest possible solutions
  • Maintain safe working conditions in the press room, with regard to machinery, as well as chemicals and materials used

Requirements

  • Community college diploma or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years' experience in a computerized four-colour press environment or equivalent
  • Experience with Heidelberg and Presstek printing presses.
  • Knowledge and experience of Presstek digital computer-to-plate systems
  • Knowledge and experience of Heidelberg QM46 poly and metal plate systems
  • Strong computer skills, and knowledge of relevant applications
  • Knowledge and experience with the Pantone Matching System
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stay on schedule in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in dealing with publishing and pre-press professionals
  • Experience in creating and showing proofs to clients
  • Physical fitness, ability to lift ink containers and paper
